144.2…When The Lights Went Out

As I was writing my blog post yesterday, the lights started to flicker and then everything turned off. The kids thought it was funny at first until they realized that I couldn’t turn the TV back on.

At least my gas stove still worked so I could make the dinner I planned: Mexican Quinoa Skillet.

I enjoyed it but it definitely need some spice so I added a ton of Cholula hot sauce and tons of salsa.

The kids wanted only things that could be made in the oven of course. I spent a long time trying to explain electricity versus gas. I had a 6 year old and a 4 year old staring at me like I had lost my mind. They kept trying different lights in the house and would report to me each time that the light did not work.

We got ready for bed before the sun went down and then played games by candlelight. I then explained to him that this is how people lived before electricity was invented. Again the stares.

I also tried to help them appreciate what we have. We take the little things in life for granted. Once they are gone, we realized what we had.

Eventually around 1 am power was restored and life went back to normal. The food in my freezer was still frozen and all was well.

Breakfast was a toasted cinnamon waffle with Teddie peanut butter and a side of watermelon.

School was cancelled today and I wasn’t sad about it. We got to leisurely wake up, drink coffee and just chill a bit this morning. Eventually I went to my Cardio Muscle class and got my a** whooped. Nice!

I got my nails done and come home for some lunch.

Turkey sandwich on toasted wheat bread, pickles and grapes.

I took both kids to my daughter’s “Dog Smart” lesson and then we came home. I got the laundry started and am enjoying some of this:

Yeah!

What are you up to on this Friday night?

Do you go to bed at the same time as your significant other or are you on different sleep schedules?
