Six Hours on a Plane

Good evening! I’m on my flight back home! Loving the Wi-Fi on Virgin America!! We get into Los Angeles super late tonight and then have to drive to San Diego. It will be nice to sleep in my own bed.

Last night my husband had to attend a work dinner so we all went out to dinner without him. My aunt chose Charley’s Saloon:

I ordered the baked shrimp stuffed with crab. It came with rice and veggies.

Boston April 2011 145

It was just ok. I wasn’t super impressed with the food. I did try a few bites of my aunt’s ice cream pie.

Boston April 2011 146

Now that’s what I’m talking about!

This morning I was up before the kids (shocker!) and decided to get myself a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee.

Boston April 2011 147

I choose the French vanilla flavor… good. Why don’t we have Dunkin Donuts??

By the time I got mostly packed up, it was time to meet my aunt and uncle for lunch. I guess the coffee was my breakfast. :)

We went back to Papa Razzi….the hubby really liked it.

Boston April 2011 148

Their foccacia bread was outstanding. I ate an entire piece.

Boston April 2011 149

I ordered the prosciutto, tomato, mozzarella panini:

Boston April 2011 150

Eh. It was ok. Great idea but the bread wasn’t very good or panini-like.

After lunch, we went back to the hotel to finish packing and load the car. We had some time to spare (no pun intended) so we went bowling! :) My kids LOVE to bowl. I had a great time too….I actually broke 100! I’m not the best bowler you’ve ever met.

Then it was off to the airport. We are underway on our SIX hour flight. Six really?? Apparently there’s a ton a head wind. Bite me head wind.

What a great trip we had! I enjoyed seeing family, eating my way through Boston and watching my kids have a ball. The hotel, The Colonnade, was excellent. I highly recommend it.

I guess it’s time to get back to real life and start eating healthy. I’m ready for it. I actually don’t want to see another French fry again for awhile. Now wine….that’s another story. :)

Do you ever go bowling?

What’s your favorite blog (besides mine of course)? :)

Culinary Adventures in Boston

I have been on an eating adventure! Boston has so many amazing restaurants!

Tuesday I got ready to go out for some more shopping with my aunt and wore my other new shoes.

Boston April 2011 111

So comfortable!

We went to Stephanie’s restaurant for lunch.

Boston April 2011 112

Boston April 2011 113

I ordered a glass of wine with my lunch. Why not!?! I’m on vacation!

Boston April 2011 114

I ordered a lobster roll for my entree.

Boston April 2011 115

It came with fries and cole slaw and rocked my world. I love you lobster roll!

We shopping for awhile and came back to the hotel to chill for a bit before we left for dinner.

We went to Joe’s American Bar & Grill for dinner. I had a salad to start.

Boston April 2011 117

And clam chowder in a bread bowl for my entree.

Boston April 2011 118

Yesterday’s breakfast was bread with peanut butter. My camera ate the picture….probably because it was boring….you’ve seen it before.

We got ready and headed down to the Warf for lunch. We stopped at Wagamama for lunch.

Boston April 2011 121

We all split some chicken dumplings:

Boston April 2011 122

And some lettuce wraps:

Boston April 2011 123

I ordered their Chili Men with Shrimp:

Boston April 2011 124

Unfortunately, it wasn’t very good. It tasted like spaghetti sauce….not at all Asian. Boo! But don’t worry…I made up for it later in the day….

We took a cruise around Boston Harbor….

Boston April 2011 126

Then we cruised over to Modern Pastry…..

Boston April 2011 128

To sample their famous cannolis!

Boston April 2011 127

Oh man. If you want a good cannoli, you need to get yourself over to Modern Pastry.

Someone had recommended Regina Pizza to us so we stopped in.

Boston April 2011 131

Boston April 2011 132

For an entire veggie pizza….

Boston April 2011 133

Good thing my lunch sucked…the pizza didn’t!

My husband and I scored awesome ticket to the Boston Bruins Playoffs Game 7 Hockey Game so we went on a little date night.

Boston April 2011 141

Wine in a plastic cup is classy no matter what anyone tells you.

Boston April 2011 134

Boston April 2011 135

Wow I need to wash and blow dry my hair. This is what happens when you don’t bring your round brush and blow dyer.

The game went into over time so by the time we got out it was getting late. We took the “T” back to our hotel and the only restaurant open was the Cheesecake Factory.

We split spinach dip:

Boston April 2011 136

I ordered the fried shrimp platter:

Boston April 2011 137

Then we called it a night. Fun date night! Thanks to my mother in law for watching the kiddos!

This morning I rolled with some granola and milk for breakfast:

Boston April 2011 138

I thought about getting a run in at the gym but that didn’t happen. I drank coffee in the hotel room instead. Oh well, I’ll worry about running later.

We took the kids to Boston Commons to ride the swan boats. They are these boats that were built in the 1800’s that have a big white swan on the back. You ride around this little lake in them. The trees are so beautiful in the Boston Commons… was a beautiful sight!

We thought we’d run into the Cheers restaurant (the outside is from the actual Cheers show….the inside was made to look like the set in Hollywood) for lunch. I ordered the turkey burger with onion rings:

Boston April 2011 139

It was ok….the food is nothing to write home about. It’s fun to check out the restaurant but I’d recommend eating somewhere else.

After lunch, we went back to Boston Commons for the kids to run around and play. Eventually it started to rain so we made our way back to the hotel.

Tomorrow is our last day in Boston….we head to the airport tomorrow night.

Did you ever watch the show Cheers? I did..I used to love it!

Are you going to watch The Royal Wedding? Nope.

Harvard and Habaneros

Ready for some more Boston adventures? I see a diet in my future….I’ve been enjoying a lot of good eats here!

Sunday for lunch we picked up food from The Cheesecake Factory to eat in our hotel room. I went with the lunch size pizza and salad. My favorite salad dressing from a restaurant is their balsamic vinaigrette.

Boston April 2011 033

We got dressed for a Passover dinner at my mother in law’s cousin’s house. I wore one of my new pairs of shoes. :)

Boston April 2011 034

I didn’t take any pictures at dinner (didn’t want to have to explain a food blog to a bunch of older folk) but it was delicious and we all had a great time. I indulged in some homemade chocolate macaroons. :)

Yesterday morning I was a good girl. As soon as I got out of bed I went to the hotel gym to do my half marathon training for the day: 4 miles of rolling hills.

Boston April 2011

I’m not going to lie, that was hard. That’s the longest distance I’ve ever run on a treadmill. I did a five minute warm up and a five minute cool down. I was a sweaty mess afterwards.

I came back to the room to make some coffee and eat some bread with some Teddie peanut butter.

Boston April 2011 035

I showered and got dressed and the whole family decided to head on over to Harvard Square for the day. We took the kids on their first subway ride on the “T”.

Boston April 2011 098

We had to switch lines in the middle and managed to get there without getting lost. Nice! We were told to go to lunch at Mr. Bartley’s Gourmet Burgers.

Boston April 2011 037

I mean, check out their burger menu! It’s extensive!

Boston April 2011 036

Every burger had a name….either for a celebrity or a politician. We ordered onion rings for the table. They rocked my face off.

Boston April 2011 038

I ordered the Guy Fieri Burger: Muenster cheese, tomato, lettuce, red onion and Russian dressing.

Boston April 2011 039

I dominated it. I love cheeseburgers.  Now I have to run 4 more miles of rolling hills.

We walked through Harvard (gorgeous school!!) and took the kids to the Curious George Bookstore. Then it was time to head back to the hotel. I ordered my first Dunkin Donuts coffee at the station.

Boston April 2011 040

Latte light. It was good but I think I’ll order an iced coffee next time.  I was just too full to drink that much liquid. :)

We chilled at the hotel for a bit and then went on a trolley ride around the city. We came back to the hotel to get ready for dinner with my aunt and uncle. We took a cab to their apartment and then walked to dinner at Toscano. Toscano is a classic Northern Italian restaurant located on Beacon Hill.

Boston April 2011 051

It was so nice walking to dinner. In San Diego, there’s no way I could walk to dinner. Well, I guess I could but it would take way longer than would be fun.

I ordered a glass of wine.

Boston April 2011 052

And a Caesar salad to start.

Boston April 2011 053

For my entree I rolled with their linguine with lobster. The chunks of lobster were big!

Boston April 2011 054

I asked for red pepper flakes and not only did they bring those but also dried habanero flakes!

Boston April 2011 055

The habanero flakes are on the left. Holy Spicy Batman! WOW! I’m glad I only put a little bit on my pasta, I would have blown my head off otherwise. My husband and mother in law tried them too. By the end we were all sniffling and drinking a lot of water. :)

I think today may be another shopping day with my aunt. Do you think we can manage free tequila shots again? :)

Have you ever had dried Habanero flakes? I didn’t even know these existed.

Can you walk to stores/restaurants from where you live?

Free Tequila Shots anyone?

We’ve been having such a great time in Boston! We’ve decided to stay on west coast time so the kids don’t get too messed up time wise. It’s nice waking up at 10:30am even though it’s only 7:30am at home.

When my son saw that PF Changs was across the street from our hotel, The Colonnade, he wanted to go there. So that’s where we went for Friday night dinner.

We split Changs Spicy Chicken, 2 other chicken dishes that I can’t remember and Dan Dan Noodles.

Boston April 2011 023

Yesterday morning I had some bread with my new found love, Teddie peanut butter butter along with some coffee for breakfast.

Boston April 2011 024

I decided it was about time to get myself to the gym. It was raining all day in Boston yesterday so I decided to pound out some miles on the dreadmill. You know how I feel about the treadmill. Ugh. I only had time for 3 miles which I ran in 31 minutes. The rest of the time was spent warming up and cooling down.

Boston April 2011 021

My mother and law and the kids went off for their adventures  for the day and my aunt who lives here picked me up for some shopping. We stopped at Sonsie for lunch.

Boston April 2011 026

She ordered a Bloody Mary and I rolled with a mimosa minus the juice. The juice just takes up space. :)

Boston April 2011 025

For lunch I ordered the crab salad salad with mixed greens.

Boston April 2011 027

So freaking delicious. I really need to make it a point to eat more seafood here!

Somewhere along the way, our lovely waiter Ryan, brought us free tequila shots. Not quite sure how that happened, but ok! Free tequila shots for lunch? OK! My aunt didn’t want hers so I took one for the team and drank it. Gotta do what you gotta do.

Boston April 2011 022

We went the rest of the day shopping at the huge mall across the street from our hotel. Boozy face shopping=dangerous! I bought a couple pairs of shoes….I’ll have to model them later!

We all came back to the hotel and chilled for a bit before we went to dinner at Papa Razzi. Love the name!

Boston April 2011 028

I ordered a Caesar salad to start:

Boston April 2011 029

For my entree, I ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese:

Boston April 2011 030

It was out of this world delicious. It was made with veal and pancetta and it rocked my world. Papa Razzi was an excellent restaurant!!!

Don’t forget the dessert: the brownie sundae that my husband ordered:

Boston April 2011 031

I only ate two bites. I was stuffed!

It’s time to get going for the day. I just finished my granola and milk and am about to pop in the shower!

Boston April 2011 032

Enjoy your day!!

What’s the weather like where you are today? So far so good..the sun is shinning right now!

Do you celebrate Easter? What are your plans? We are actually Passover peeps over here and will be going to my mother in law’s cousin’s house for a Passover dinner tonight.
