139.8....Indian Food, how I love thee.

I watched the season finale of The Bachelor Pad last night at Lisa's house. I still can't believe I watch that silly show..but it was entertaining. :) Did anyone else watch it?

I went to sleep past my bedtime last night so when the alarm went off at 6AM, I was not feeling it. And I'm crazy sore from yesterday's workouts. It was a struggle getting out of bed this morning, I'll tell ya.

But I'm always excited for breakfast. Today it was Fage yogurt with Fiber One cereal and some sorry looking strawberries that were on their last leg:















I took the kids to school and drove to Great News for a cooking class. This one I was especially excited about: Indian Favorites. I love Indian Food. I only make a few Indian recipes...my favorite being Indian Butter Chicken. Please make this. Please. Back to cooking class....

I don't know a ton about Indian food/cooking but I'll try to explain the recipes as best as I can. The first recipe was Croissants Stuffed with Spicy Potatoes and Peas. This was dipped in Dates and Tamarind Chutney:














This one is self explanatory. The instructor explained that a similar appetizer is served in India with puffed pastry. The croissants and filling were really good! The chutney was spicy and a perfect pairing with the croissants. I think this would be a nice dish to take to a potluck....different and unexpected.

The next recipe was my favorite. I think it may even rank up there with my Butter Chicken! Malai Kofta:














This is paneer (Indian cheese) balls that are fried and served in a spicy tomato curry. One the side was garlic naan. Be still my heart. This was amazing. It is a recipe that requires a lot of work but it would WOW anyone you served it to! The word "Malai" means cream and "Kofta" means minced and seasoned meat or vegetables shaped into balls and fried. Amazing.

Next up was Tandoori Chicken:














Tandoori chicken is a popular Indian barbecued spicy chicken. The instructor had the assistants at the cooking school marinate the chicken the night before. Only problem was there was a typo in the marinade recipe: instead of requesting 7 DROPS of red food coloring, the recipe called for 7 TEASPOONS of red food coloring. Oh my....the picture does not do the red color justice. It was seriously blinding. At least it tasted good!

Dessert was Shiro served with vanilla ice cream:














This is basically similar to cream of wheat cooked in ghee (clarified butter) flavored with cardamoms and saffron. It was an interesting dessert...I definitely like it better with the ice cream that without but apparently it's not served with ice cream in India.

After class, I ran a few errands. I feel like I'm coming down with something. I'm all achy (can't tell if it's just from the workouts) and very tired so a trip to Starbucks was in order:


















Grande triple shot skinny vanilla iced latte. It actually helped!

Now I'm at home relaxing before I have to get ready for Bunco tonight! Yee haw!

  1. The Indian food looks super delicious! I love tandoori chicken. And the kofta look great too. I love coffee but can't drink it anymore - I suddenly turned super sensitive to it - it makes me a little crazy. I get iced chai lattes from Starbucks.

    As for coffee, no thanks! I hate it, even the smell.
