Delicious. That explains last night's dinner at Firenze (my favorite restaurant) in one nice simple word.

Our friends ordered a bottle of wine for the table:

And some bruschetta to share:

It looks funny looking on the plate but it was so fabulous! We also ordered calamari but I didn't get a photo of that plate. Here is my plate with some bruschetta and calamari:

The calamari was very fresh and perfectly crisp. Hubby and I are split our standard salad: Chopped Caesar:

I love everything about this salad: the chopped lettuce, red onions and tomatoes and the dressing is delicious.

For my entree I ordered the Scrampi all Fresca but instead of the tomato sauce it came with, I changed it to their Brandy Aurora sauce. It's basically an amazing pink sauce:

Once I drizzled red pepper flakes all over it, I was good to go. Amazing. I will order that again for sure. I could only make it through half of it so I have some fabulous leftovers for later. :)

Hubby ordered Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert. I didn't argue. How could you argue with this?

You can't so don't even try.

Breakfast this morning was egg whites & spinach on a sandwich thin smeared with a Laughing Cow Garlic & Herb cheese wedge. On the side I had some cantaloupe:

I went to Cardio Muscle class and came home to make some Challah bread. I've never done it before so I was a little nervous. I used this Shabbot Challah recipe. I decided halve the recipe and did not screw that up this time. :) I got the dough all mixed and put it in a bowl to rise.

While it was doing its rising thing, I made lunch:

It's basically the same salad from yesterday but I used some leftover rotisserie chicken instead of tuna. Equally delicious! My daughter was extremely impressed that I ate the entire thing. :)

Then it was time to attend to the challah. My risen perfection:

Next I divided the dough into six pieces....three for each braid.

I put one braid in the freezer and left this one to bake. It's not the prettiest braid ever but who cares. I had to let it rise again. I took my son to get his hair cut and came back to the challah:

I brushed it with a mixture of egg, water and vanilla sugar and sprinkled it with sesame seeds:

Time for the oven!

Yes!

Well....it wasn't as sweet as I like my challah but the consistency was perfect...next time more sugar. I have to say I was pretty proud of myself.

In the middle of all that I put together a couple of little bookcases that I'm going to use to organize the kid's toys. That project will have to wait until tomorrow because we are about to leave for dinner at our club.

What was your proudest baking/cooking moment?

  1. That challah looks so good! I think the best thing I have ever made is homemade pasta :)
