143.8…Home Sweet Home

When I pulled into my driveway last night, my husband and kids were waiting for me outside. As much fun as my weekend was, it was so nice seeing all their smiling faces!

On my way home my husband told me that we were going to take the kids to our club for dinner. Sunday evening are “Slider Sundays” there and that sounded so good….I needed some greasy food! We met some friends there and all shared a bottle of wine. I don’t think I’ve ever been know to turn down a glass of wine.

They always have a few different sliders to choose from. I went with the Philly Cheesecake slider and the Crab Cake Slider. I also had a side of “frings”: French fries and onion rings:

That hit the spot.

The kids went to bed and I was asleep very shortly afterwards.

After a fabulous night’s sleep, I was ready for breakfast. Toast with almond butter and a grapefruit:

Hubby took the kids to school and I went to Cardio Muscle class. I decided to get my run in after class this morning instead of before. Last week I did it before and had a hard time getting through the class. Today I was supposed to do 3 miles focusing on hills for my half marathon training. I had to run on the treadmill because it was raining. I decided to run a quarter of a mile flat and a quarter of a mile on a higher incline and keep that up until I reached three miles. I was a sweaty mess at the end.

I came home quickly to change and grab a snack:

Turkey slices, a pickle and mustard rolled up in a wheat tortilla. We seriously needed fresh fruit and produce so I made a trip to Trader Joe’s. After putting all my goods away, I went to pick up my daughter at school. Once we got home I made a huge salad for lunch.

Mixed greens, cucumber, bell pepper, tomatoes, radishes, red onion, tuna with a hummus/balsamic vinegar dressing.

After inhaling the huge salad beast, my daughter and I went to pick up my son from school. From there we went to The Helen Woodward Animal Center. They have a program there called Dog Smart. Both my kids are afraid of dogs and I have no idea why. I would like to get a dog someday and I heard this program is excellent at helping children get over their fears and become more comfortable around dogs. The first appointment was getting them used to the instructor and meeting animals of different sizes to understand more about their fears. We got to meet bunnies, goats, a very quiet dog, some reptiles and even a few bugs. The kids did a great job. :)

My plan for the rest of the night is to make dinner and relax. It’s nice to be home. :)

Were you/are you afraid of dogs?

Did you have pets growing up?

  1. That's so cute your family was outside waiting for you!

I'm not afraid of dogs in general, but I never know what to expect from ones that happen to be out running loose. Hope that program is helpful for your kiddos!

  2. Nope, never have been afraid of dogs and neither is Ava. I attribute that to my parents already having a dog before me, and we already had a dog before Ava. She LOVES to see dogs and a favorite errand is Petsmart.

Maybe their own puppy is in order?

  3. I was TERRIFIED of dogs growing up. Like I'd cross the street if someone was walking one and I'd freak out if a friend's dog jumped on me. We only had a cat. It actually got better when my grandma got a dog. I still am not a huge fan of dogs, especially dogs that jump, except for my baby Nina who I love to death. I think you are doing the right thing with this program for your kids and getting a dog someday! Trust me, the exposure will help.

  4. Ahhh love onion rings!!! That is a great program to bring your kids to! I hope it allows them to get over their fears, because having animals when you are younger is awesome. I grew up with all sorts of animals, dogs, cats, goats, rabbits, horses and miniature horses. It really helped me be more responsible, and they are just so lovable! Good luck!!!

  6. Love the idea of slider Sunday and I have a trip to TJ's on my list! I wasn't afraid of dogs - should have been - I got bit in the face when I was 3. :( But we got a dachshund, Barney, when I was 6 and then a cocker spaniel, Andy, when I was 10. Loved them both so much and couldn't wait to have pets of my own!!

  8. I have never been scared of dogs..I guess because I grew up with one. My daughter at first was very hesitant of our dog but now she is obsessed with her...I am glad she is able to grow up with a dog so she would'nt continue to be so frightful of them.

  9. I'm uber allergic to dogs so when they jump at me with drool flying from their face or their tonuges out to lick me... I step back a few feet. I feel awful but being covered in hives is no bueno! once their mouth is closed i'll usually pet em and say sorry =)
