138.8…I’m A Nomad
Nomad: A member of a people that has no permanent abode but moves about from place to place.
This describes me perfectly lately. I feel like I’ve been living out of a suitcase for so long that I don’t even know what it feels like to have a permanent place to live.
Saturday night’s plans seemed so simple. I would drive from my parent’s house in Pasadena to my brother in law’s house in Calabasas. My husband would drive the kids to his house from San Diego. The kids would play with their cousins and my husband and I would go to our friends’ surprise birthday party.
Didn’t work out that way. Traffic was so horrible that day. What would normally take 35 minutes from Pasadena to Calabasas, took an hour and a half. There was a giant accident blocking both sides of the freeway a bit north of where I was going. My husband had it worse. After over 4 hours in the car stuck in traffic with the kids, he tried taking side streets, got lost and went too far north, ahead of the accident and couldn’t get back. He had to get a hotel room with the kids. I had to go to the party solo.
I got ready and headed over to Trader Vic’s at the Beverly Hilton for two friend’s surprise birthday.
Check out the fabulous candy bar!
I was so busy catching up with friends that I didn’t end up eating much. The few appetizers I did eat were fabulous. When I got back to my brother in law’s house that night, I heated up some leftover turkey chili and went to town on it. By the way, the accident didn’t get cleared up until later that night. What a mess! I wasn’t even sure where I was going to stay that night (depended on my husband’s situation) so I put my suitcase back in my car waiting to see where I’d go. Nomad.
Sunday morning, my husband and kids finally made it to my brother in law’s house. I had a bagel and cream cheese for breakfast.
We hung around the house for awhile and then took the kids to lunch at Islands. I ordered the Barbeque Chicken Salad without tortilla strips and with the low fat ranch dressing.
Trying to make healthier choices since I’ve been eating out so much. It was pretty satisfying actually.
The kids swam the rest of the day and eventually it was time to go to dinner. We went to Sol Y Luna Mexican restaurant in Tarzana. We all shared table size guacamole. It was delicious.
My brother in law shared the carne asada plate.
I made a little burrito with the carne asada, guacamole and rice. Another winner!
After dinner, I stopped by my parent’s house to visit my dad. I stayed about an hour and then drove back to San Diego. Ah! To be in my own bed was fabulous!
This morning’s breakfast was Trader Joe’s Vanilla Bean Greek yogurt, granola and strawberries.
I ran a few errands and then met Lisa and Annette at the gym. I haven’t worked out in about three weeks. I really needed this workout today. I did the elliptical for about 35 minutes and then 25 minutes of weights. We grabbed lunch at the little pool cafe nearby.
Tuna salad, tomatoes, avocado all on a bed of greens with balsamic vinegar. I don’t think vegetables have ever tasted so good.
I plan on being home for a few days before heading back to Pasadena to visit my dad. The nomad life continues!
What’s the longest you’ve gone lately without working out?
Considering everything going on for you right now it's understandable you haven't been able to work out! I'm currently in my longest stretch of not working out...almost 4 months. I know they say you're supposed to when pregnant, but I've been lazy and not felt like waking up early before work. Any suggestions or motivation? What did you do when pregnant?ReplyDelete
During my first pregnancy, I worked out 5 days a week up until I was 7 months pregnant. During my second pregnancy, I didn't work out at all. My son was about a year old and I was just too tired. Good luck to you...it's hard! Maybe just start with simple walks and see how you do.
This was my summer as a nomad, too, Melissa. Suitcases for all of us for almost 3 months. ugh. was so over that. We are finally getting settled but its slow going. nothing like moving to a new country. I definitely had a hiatus from the gym - just went to body pump here, first gym class this month and I only went to 3 classes in July, and 2 in June with all our travel. Ugh! I am SO SORE today. Its good though, right???ReplyDelete
It's fabulous! I love that sore from a good workout feeling. I'm sore today too!
