Many Firsts In Mexico

Greetings from Punta Mita, Mexico. Punta Mita is about 40 minutes from Puerto Vallarta.

Saturday morning I was up bright and early to get ready for our flight. I quickly ate my toasted English muffin with peanut butter and strawberries for breakfast. So quick I almost forgot to take a picture!

We arrived at the airport and I do what I always do at airports…get a coffee at Starbucks.

Our 2 hour and 45 minute flight to Puerto Vallarta was easy and uneventful. When we got outside, it was HOT. Our hotel picked us up and fortunately had chilled towels. I put mine to good use.

We arrived at our hotel and were given the tour of our room. By the way, the reason we went on this trip is that we won it in an auction. What we didn’t realize was how awesome it would be! Our hotel room had it’s own private patio complete with little pool.

Check out the view! Can I move in forever?? I’ve never had my own private pool before!

After we swam a bit (feeling very spoiled) we went down to The Beach Club for dinner.

While savoring the delicious view, I enjoyed some refreshing wine.

The restaurant does not have a dinner menu. They bring you tapas style dishes of whatever is fresh and in season. I knew I’d be fine but my husband is beyond picky (think toddler) so I was worried.

The first plate that came was endive lettuce with orange segments, blue cheese and a mustard dressing.

The next plate arrived and I wish I could describe properly what was on it but with the language barrier (and all the food I ate that night) I forgot all the descriptions.

The right side was shrimp with chorizo in a curry sauce (awesome!). The left top was some kind of duck with cooked bananas. After pushing the bananas aside, I enjoyed it. The bottom right was a pepper stuffed with steak with some kind of sauce and strawberries on top. Again, after the strawberries were pushed aside, I devoured the rest.

The next plate missed the camera. Oops. My bad. It was fish with some kind of sauce. I enjoyed it.

The next plate was my favorite.

This was steak on top of a sweet potato puree. It was heavenly.

Dessert basically sucked.

June 2012 303

Cheesecake that tasted more like rubbery flan.

Butter cake that was just ok. Oh well…you can’t have it all (although I do try!). By the way…my husband didn’t like his meal. Big surprise. :)

Yesterday morning we relaxed in our room and ate bagels for breakfast. Included in our auction was a private yacht ride. When we arrived at the bay, we were greeted by our crew and a gorgeous boat.

Talk about a first! I’ve never been on a yacht like this!!! When we got onboard, there was guacamole, salsa and chips for us.

June 2012 310

Crazy good guacamole. I could have lived off it forever.

We were given a tour of the yacht and then we were off for a 3 hour cruise. (Yes I did sing the Gilligan Island theme song in my head.)

We had our own personal chef. Besides the amazing guacamole that he made, there was also a fabulous lunch.

The kids enjoyed pasta, hot dogs and ice cream sundaes with M&M’s. How spoiled are we!?! I seriously felt like a rock star. They were playing hip hop music (my favorite) and I was sipping wine feeling like I owned the world. I could get used to this.
