143.0…A Surprise Party

Last night my husband and I drove to Orange County (Fullerton, to be specific) for a surprise birthday party for someone my husband works with. That’s about an hour and a half drive from San Diego without traffic. Well, we left around 5PM on  Friday evening, so you can imagine it took a bit longer. Ugh. But we made it on time….early actually!

Before we left I was smart enough to make a snack because I knew I wouldn’t be eating dinner until late.

Apple with Super Chunky Peanut Butter = best snack ever! I love the super chunky peanut butter!

We arrived at the Coyote Hills Golf Course for the party and I immediately got a glass of wine.

I didn’t get to see the actual surprise happen. No announcement was made, nor did I hear anyone yell “Surprise!” but all of a sudden the guest of honor was there. I was really looking forward to the “Surprise” part….oh well.

A dinner buffet was served. I took a bit of everything.

I’m not quite sure what everything was but I can tell you that most everything was fried as you can see. There was tandori chicken that rocked so I went back for seconds of that.  I also had a few mini cupcakes that somehow escaped the camera (probably because I ate them too fast).

Around 9:30PM, we headed home. I was glad to get into bed.

The kiddos had a sleep over at a friends house so I got to sleep in this morning….until 8:30! That, for me, is crazy! I went to my spin class at 9:30 so I decided to wait to have breakfast until after class.

Fage cherry pomegranate yogurt with strawberries and raspberries.

I dropped my son off at Boy Scouts and then came home for lunch. We had some friends stop by so we ordered Leucadia Pizza for lunch. The boys had pizza and the girls had salad. :) I ordered the Roasted Chicken Salad.

It had chicken (duh), cherry tomatoes, red onions, and feta cheese. The menu said goat cheese so I was a little sad when I saw the feta.

Look what I just pulled out of the oven:

Oh yeah! Chocolate Chip Cookies!  I haven’t tried them yet but the dough tasted good. :)

Tomorrow we are all off to Los Angeles bright and early for a friend’s children's’ birthday party. We will spend the day there so I won’t be blogging tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Have you ever given or been the victim (ha-ha!) of a surprise party?

Peanut butter: Smooth or Chunky?

  2. Yeah, I always love to see what you have been eating. Great variety.

  3. I LOVE crunchy peanut butter - unless I'm adding it to my bowl of cereal, and then I prefer the creamy stuff. A nice dollup of that on top of my Kellogg's FiberPlus(R) - YUM!

  4. Chunky peanut butter rocks! My brother did a surprise 30th birthday party for me and my sister - I should convert his VHS birthday surprise to DVD, he put together clips of old home movies - we both had no idea!

  5. This has nothing to do with surprise parties (hate them, btw - none of that "singing at the restaurant" stuff, either) or peanut butter, but you mentioned goat cheese in your post. You MUST try goat cheese enchilladas. I had them the other day and they were A-MAZING!! They had a traditional tomato-type sauce on them (really light, though). I think you would love them. I need to track down a recipe...
