144.8…Back to Basics

Well….for the most part. I decided that I’d take a wine break when I got back from Boston. Who am I kidding!?!

Yesterday afternoon my sister in law and brother in law came over with their kids. It was such a gorgeous afternoon in San Diego. The kids were in the pool and the day just called for a crisp glass of Chardonnay.

We ordered pizza and salad for dinner. I tried to be good and ate a lot of salad and only one piece of pizza.

Well, I did eat the crusts from my kids’ slices but that doesn’t count right?

After getting all the laundry finished, the house picked up and the kids’ stuff ready for school, I finally went to bed.

My husband took the kids to school this morning. I quickly ate some toast with Teddie peanut butter and went out for a run.

I’m glad I ran early this morning. Today is a hot one! Today’s half marathon training was an easy 4 miler.

Mile 1 – 10:29

Mile 2 – 10:07

Mile 3 – 9:47

Mile 4 – 9:02

I came back home to change my shoes, grab an apple and head over to my Cardio Muscle class.

I’m going to be sore tomorrow. I’m always sore after Monday’s class but it’s been two weeks since I’ve been so I know I’m really going to feel it tomorrow!

After class I took my sweaty self to the grocery store. We needed some food pretty bad!

For lunch I decided to use up the leftovers from my La Salsa lunch yesterday. I was lucky enough to receive a coupon for a free bag of Tyson’s Grilled & Ready Fully Cooked Chicken Breast Strips from Foodbuzz’s Tastemaker Program. I picked up a bag at the grocery store today.

There is a beef version available and they come in the freezer aisle. Now, normally I’ve never been a fan of frozen already cooked meat. I usually find it chewy and the texture is always off. So I was pretty apprehensive about trying these. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised! These were pretty darn good! They actually tasted like I cooked up some fresh chicken and sliced it. I cooked some of the chicken strips up in a skillet with some veggies and added it to my La Salsa leftovers.

These chicken breast strips would be great to keep on hand for a fast meal. You could add them to salads, pastas or make fajitas with them. I think I may do that tomorrow night for dinner!

I just got home from picking up my daughter from school and I’ll be on my way to pick up my son soon. They are going to the same school next year (yes!) but their times will still be different. One more year of crazy pick up schedules until they will both be on the same schedule. Ugh.

The kiddos have another “Dog Smart” appointment today and then it’s time to make dinner. I can’t wait for bedtime. :)

Have you ever used frozen chicken breast/beef strips?

What was your workout today?

  1. Great mileage!

    And no - crust doesn't count. :)

I've never tried those strips before - thanks for the review. No workout today - have A LOT of make up to do this week!

  2. Nice workout!

I have never used frozen meat strips, but I might try them. I always thought they would be gross, but you make them sound awesome and they won't rot in my fridge if we don't have time to make dinner!

My workout was a quick 3 miler this morning, which will probably be my last before my half marathon on Saturday.

  6. Wow, a double workout - you deserve a glass of vino again tonight. Whenever I want to "clean up my act" I still have my glass of vino, I just cut out a bit of the carbs for heavier veggie servings and that does the trick.

My workout today was a new class...kickboxing circuit. It was a bit of boxing, with a lot of other good cardio circuits as well. I'm a convert and will be heading back next Monday!

  10. Since I only eat fish I don't have much 'meaty' knowledge but I LOVE Trader Joe's Mahi Burgers - they are a staple in my freezer and save the day many times when I have no time to cook!
