Grandma Ople’s Apple Pie (Serves 8)
Recipe adapted from Allrecipes.com
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup water
6-8 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and sliced
- Melt butter in a sauce pan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and water; bring to a boil. Reduce temperature, and simmer 5 minutes.
- Meanwhile, place the bottom crust in your pan. Pour most of sauce over apples, reserving some to brush the top of the pie. Gently stir to cover apples. Fill crust with apples, mounded slightly. Cover with a lattice work crust. Gently brush the sugar and butter liquid on the crust.
- Bake 15 minutes at 425 degrees. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees, and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes.
Friday night’s dinner was Beef and Mushroom Ragu with Fettuccine leftovers.
This sauce is seriously amazing. I think I need to make it again this coming week.
Breakfast yesterday was Smoked Salmon Frittata with fruit.
The frittata heated up really well!
The day was spent doing laundry and random stuff around the house. Lunch was a turkey sandwich, veggies and ranch dressing.
I got dressed for a holiday party for a group my husband belongs to. It was held in the new library in downtown San Diego. We enjoyed some passed appetizers before sitting down for dinner.
Beautiful table setting! First course was salad:
Followed by the main course of chicken, beef, mashed potatoes, gnocchi and green beans all served family style.
Today I’m attending a neighborhood holiday party. It’s a potluck and I couldn’t decide between two dishes so I’m bringing them both!
Have you attended any holiday parties yet?
