140.2…Valentine’s Eats

We kept it low key last night for Valentine’s Day. We didn’t want to go anywhere with big crowds and long waits. That pretty much takes care of most places. We opted for our club and were not disappointed. It was quiet and we were seated right away.

There was a set menu which worked for me but not so much for my husband. Set menus are not a good thing for picky eaters.

It was a four course dinner starting with appetizers. My husband didn’t like either of them so I got to eat both. Score for me! I enjoyed the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake (cornmeal crusted green tomato, avocado puree, chive-buttermilk baby tomatoes)…

…as well as the Butter Poached Maine Lobster (celeriac puree, black truffle peelings, brioche croutons):

Both were rich and delicious.

For the salad course I chose the Hamachi Crudo (blood orange confit, lemon infused olive oil, micro salad):

As for my husband, he didn’t like either salad choices. They made him a Caesar salad instead.

For my main course I opted for the Pan Seared Arctic Char (roasted broccolini, coconut infused black rice, orange ginger reduction, pea tendrils):

I’m not sure if I’ve ever had Arctic Char before! It was delicious! It reminded me of salmon but more mild. It was cooked just the way I like it….medium rare.

Dessert was a trio of Red Velvet Cake, White Chocolate & Bailey’s Pot De Creme, and Strawberry & Bavarian Cream Mille-Feuille:

The red velvet cake was my personal favorite.

Good thing we didn’t have plans afterwards. I was stuffed. Food coma.

This morning I made another yogurt parfait (Trader Joe’s vanilla Greek yogurt, Coconut-Sour Cherry Granola, strawberries and blueberries).

I took the kids to school and went to Cardio Muscle class. Lunch was a Greek salad with chicken kabob (aka best chicken ever) at Luna Grill:

I am going to pick up the kids soon and then get packed for the weekend. We are going with Alicia and her family to Orange County for the weekend. I see some shopping in my future!

Do you like to battle the Valentine’s Day crowds or do you like to hide like me?

  1. The crab cakes look nice but I imagine that it is hard to get good crab on this coast.
