139.6…Completing The Menu

At the last minute, my husband and I decided to go to my favorite restaurant, Firenze Trattoria, for dinner last night. Everything I’ve ever ordered there has been excellent. I’ve always said it was a goal of mine to have ordered everything on the menu at least once. Seems like it would be easy because we go there so often but I fall in love with things and have a hard time diverting from them.

Last night we changed things up a bit. Instead of sharing our normal Chopped Caesar salad, we choose the Bruschetta for our appetizer.

April 2013 117

Yes, we’ve had this before. Don’t worry. My entree was new-to-me.

April 2013 118

Caesar salad with grilled salmon. I know….not very creative but I wanted a salad and  had never ordered this particular one so it counts! One more menu item down!

Breakfast this morning was pineapple Chobani, Nature’s Path Peanut Butter Granola and mixed berries.

April 2013 119

After I took the kids to school, I dropped my car off for service then went to the gym for some treadmill time.

Lunch was fish tacos at Wahoo’s with some friends.

April 2013 120

I’m heading to Los Angeles tomorrow to visit my dad (he’s still doing pretty well!) so I need to get packed and some laundry done. I might actually cook tonight so hopefully I’ll have a new recipe to share with you!

Have you ever tried every single item from a menu before?

140.8…Second Chances

Just like that, the weekend flew by! Family arrived, my mother in law got married and poof…it was over! Time flies when you’re having fun, they say!

Friday night we went to our club to meet some friends for dinner. My husband and I split a Caesar salad.

April 2013 100

We also split a pizza with onions, peppers and garlic.

April 2013 101

Saturday morning I raced around the house trying to finish packing for the weekend. I raced out of the house to take my son to his basketball game and didn’t get a chance to sit down for breakfast so I ate a Cascadian Farms Oats & Honey Granola Bar on the way.

April 2013 102

After the game, we drove to Pelican Hill where we were staying for the night with family. Yes, I was there last weekend too! You don’t see me complaining.

We checked in and went to the pool. I had hummus and pita for lunch as well as some (a lot) of sweet potato fries that arrived later.

April 2013 107

Rough living.

April 2013 106

The rest of the day I put the camera down and just enjoyed family time. We picked up Mexican food for dinner from Sharky’s and ate in our room.

Breakfast was room service Sunday morning. Can’t go wrong with a bagel, lox and cream cheese!

April 2013 108

We got dressed, checked out of the hotel and went to my mother in law’s house for her wedding. The ceremony was outside and it was a perfectly beautiful day. Afterwards we enjoyed a brunch of more bagels and lox! :)

The kids swam for the rest of the day while we all chatted and caught up. Dinner was an assorted cold cut platter with different breads, sides and condiments.

April 2013 109

I had a salami sandwich with mustard, cole slaw and potato salad. Eventually it was time to say our good byes and hit the road for San Diego. The weekend was definitely too short!

This morning’s breakfast was scrambled egg beaters with salsa, shredded cheddar cheese and avocado.

April 2013 110

I took the kids to school and went to Cardio Muscle class. Monday’s class is my favorite and also the hardest. I’m sore EVERY time. I haven’t been in a couple of weeks so I know I’m really going to feel it!

Lunch today was the 3rd installment in our “Burger Crawl” through San Diego. Our 1st stop was The Habit, followed by Smashburger. This time we opted for The Counter. I had been to The Counter once and wasn’t super impressed but was excited to give them another chance.

The Counter allows you to build your own gourmet burger. You just check off the things that you want.

April 2013 111

Since I had a weekend full of not so healthy eats, I opted for a salad to go with my burger instead of fries.

April 2013 112

Great salad…very fresh ingredients. I chose the lemon vinaigrette dressing.

Last time I had a regular beef burger and I didn’t find the beef to be all that flavorful. This time I opted for the turkey burger. I had it with pepper jack cheese, roasted chilies, lettuce, tomato, chipotle aioli, red onion on a wheat bun.

April 2013 113

The turkey burger was MUCH better…so much more flavorful! I would definitely order it again! Here’s to second chances!

If you don’t like a restaurant, do you give it a second chance?

139.4…The Forgotten Restaurant

Are there restaurants that you go to not so often but every time you do, you wonder why you don’t go more often?

That’s how we feel about Villa Capri 2. We went there with Alicia and her family on Wednesday night for dinner. Their food is always good. We all shared a Caesar salad to start. It’s one of my favorite Caesar salads ever.

April 2013 092

We also shared the Rigatoni Bolognese….

April 2013 093

….and the Veal Piccata.

April 2013 094

We scraped every plate clean and wished we had more. Yes, it’s that good.

Breakfast yesterday morning was a surprise. I found this box of Nature’s Path Peanut Butter Granola in my pantry:

April 2013 095

How long has it been there? Who knows!?! All I know is that is is AWESOME.

April 2013 096

Have you tried this before??

I dropped the kids off at school, volunteered there for a bit, then got my nails done. Afterwards I went next door to Luna Grill for a Greek salad for lunch.

April 2013 097

I attended an event for my daughter’s class then brought the kids home from school.

Last night I attended a networking type of event with my husband. I didn’t know many people and felt it would be awkward to take photos of my food. They had a buffet with excellent food though. There was a pasta dish that I was obsessed over!

Breakfast this morning was more delicious peanut butter granola with pineapple Chobani and mixed berries.

April 2013 098

After dropping the kids off at school, I went the gym for Cardio Muscle class. When was the last time I went to the gym!?! Who knows!?! It felt great to workout….I do know that!

The kids had half day at school today so we went where we always go on half days. McDonald’s. Ugh. Me no likey.

April 2013 099

Grilled chicken sandwich and fries. I had to have the fries. Sometimes you just do.

Tomorrow the family is headed to Orange County for my mother in law’s wedding! My husband has a huge family and everyone will be there. It should be a ton of fun!

Is there a “forgotten restaurant” in your life that you love but always forget about?

138.4…Lack Of Food

Sometimes opening a can of soup for dinner is so comforting. It’s easy, it’s fast and there’s not a ton of dishes to do. It’s also something you do when you don’t have much in your refrigerator. This is what happened Monday night. My husband had to work late and I hadn’t been grocery shopping since I was gone all weekend, so a can of Trader Joe’s pea soup became dinner.

April 2013 087

I like this soup but I much prefer Anderson’s pea soup FYI.

Yesterday’s breakfast was pineapple Chobani, Cascadian Farms granola and strawberries.

April 2013 069

I have big plans to make a new batch of granola….I just need to find the time to do it.

After taking the kids to school, I ran some errands and stopped at Wahoo’s for lunch.

April 2013 088

The standard two fish tacos.

I picked the kids up from school and we ended up at Souplantation for dinner.

April 2013 089

I had my standard salad, chili and 800 little cups of ranch dressing.

Then my refrigerator broke. Ugh. I moved what I could to our tiny fridge outside by our barbeque. Then I just prayed for the rest of the stuff in there. By morning, it was working just fine. Huh?? I have a repair person coming today to check it out just in case. Fortunately, I didn’t have a ton of food in there. Another benefit for having a lack of food.

Breakfast this morning was scrambled egg beaters, salsa, shredded cheddar cheese and avocado.

April 2013 090

I took the kids to school, got my hair done and then ran some errands. I stopped at California Pizza Kitchen for lunch and had one of my favorite salads ever.

April 2013 091

Chopped Italian Salad. There’s nothing I don’t love about this salad. The mustard dressing is out of this world.

Tonight we are going out to dinner with some friends. Thank goodness. I have no food at home.

Is your fridge full or empty like mine?

140.4…Living It Up

This post is picture heavy. You have been warned.

Thursday night my husband was working late so I made spaghetti and marinara for dinner.

Pelican Birthday April 2013 001

Friday morning’s breakfast was an egg beater sandwich on a toasted English muffin with shredded cheddar cheese.

Pelican Birthday April 2013 002

I dropped the kids off at school, then picked up Lisa and hit the road for Orange County for a weekend away with my friends. Every year I celebrate my birthday by going to Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach. Yes…my birthday is in December but the weather is much better this time of year so that’s why I do it now. :)

Don’t worry….we didn’t forget our Barbies!

Pelican Birthday April 2013 003

We stopped at Starbucks for a latte and then headed straight to South Coast Plaza for some shopping. After a bit, we stopped at Quattro Cafe for lunch.

Pelican Birthday April 2013 004

A little wine and shopping never hurt anyone!

Neither did some prosciutto and arugula pizza.

Pelican Birthday April 2013 007

All the Barbies enjoyed their lunch too!

Cathi, Lauren and Lila:

After shopping we headed over to Pelican Hill to check in. Our room wasn’t ready yet so we enjoyed some time in the lobby bar.

Once we got settled in our room, Alicia made her famous “Pelican Hill cocktail”: Pinnacle Whipped Vodka and sparkling wine.

Not a bad view, eh?

For dinner we ordered room service. Stephanie and I split chicken tostadas…

Pelican Birthday April 2013 028

….and tuna tartare.

Pelican Birthday April 2013 029

We all got ready and went to Landmark for a night of dancing!

Pelican Birthday April 2013 037

We stayed until the place closed and had a blast!

Getting up Saturday morning was a bit rough but nothing a good bagel and cream cheese couldn’t fix.

Pelican Birthday April 2013 033

Then it was time to hit the pool!

Lunch was a BLT and fries.

Pelican Birthday April 2013 035

The perfect pool lunch if you ask me.

Eventually it was time to head back to the room to get ready for dinner at Javier’s.

Stephanie, me and Lisa:

Pelican Birthday April 2013 040

We all split shrimp ceviche:

Pelican Birthday April 2013 039

This is the best thing at Javier’s in my opinion.

I ordered shrimp tacos. They were fabulous.

Pelican Birthday April 2013 041

After dinner we came back to the room and chatted awhile before going to sleep.

Sunday morning, Stephanie made bacon and hash browns. I enjoyed half a bagel and some bacon with a mimosa. I had some hash browns after that. :)

Pelican Birthday April 2013 042

Perfect Sunday brunch!

We went back to the pool for the day. Somehow my lunch escaped my camera! I split a tuna wrap and grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries with Annette. Both were excellent.

Eventually it was time to pack up and head back to reality. I really enjoyed the break and time away with my best friends. We always have the best time together.

I drove to my parent’s house….my dad came home from the hospital a few days before! He’s really enjoying being back in his own home after a month in the hospital.

Guess what we had for dinner?

Pelican Birthday April 2013 053

El Pollo Loco! It’s been so long! I had my standard two piece white meat chicken meal with cole slaw but this time I went a little wild and had macaroni and cheese too. :)

This morning’s breakfast was toast with peanut butter.

Pelican Birthday April 2013 054

I’m going to hang out here and have lunch, then hit the road for San Diego. I feel like I haven’t been home in ages!

What was the best thing you ate all weekend? Shrimp ceviche at Javier’s for sure!
